Now, let me introduce the general information of this session.
I. High ranking activities demonstrated global influence of the Canton Fair
This year witnesses the 55th anniversary of the Canton Fair and marks the 10th anniversary of China’s accession to WTO and the opening of the “Twelfth-Five-Year-Plan”. The Canton Fair took this as an opportunity, organized activities such as Forum on the 10th Anniversary of China’s Accession to the WTO, Sino-US Economic Exchanges at Provincial/State-level, Sino-Japan Economic and Trade Cooperation Symposium, Seminar on Promoting Latin American and Caribbean Export to China, and invited high-profile guests. President Hu Jintao sent a congratulation letter, Premier Wen Jiabao attended the opening ceremony and gave a keynote speech. Moreover, 73 vice ministers/governors and above from Chinese central and local governments and 48 vice ministers and above from 31 countries and regions, ambassadors and general consuls attended the ceremony, making this session the highest level one in its history. This fully demonstrated that the whole world held higher expectations of the Fair and hoped to promote communication and share opportunities via the Fair in the slowing recovery period of world economy, and it also reflects that China, a big developing country, is gradually playing the role of being the engine and source of confidence for the world economy.
II. A new high in buyer attendance
209,175 buyers from 210 countries and regions around the world attended the 110th Canton Fair until Nov 3rd, 1% increase over the 109th session and 4.79% increase over the 108th, hitting the historical high.
Asian buyers rank the top in attendance number with 113,375, accounting for 54% of the total; European buyers come next with 42,901 buyers, accounting for 21%; American with 31,293 buyers, accounting for 15%; African with 14,930 buyers, accounting 7%; Oceanic buyers has the least number with 6,676, accounting for 3%. Compared with the previous session, there is an increase of 17.21% of European buyers, a 7.85% increase in Africa, while a respective reduction of 4.13%, 3.01% and 0.73% in Asia, Oceania and America.
The number of buyers from Chinese top ten trade partner countries and regions in 2010 reached 137,951 in this session, accounting for 66% of the total and increased by 1% over the previous session, which shows that most buyers are from our key trade partners.
The number of buyers from the top 20 countries and regions in the attendance list reached 135,840, accounting for 64.9% and decreased by 0.1% over the previous session. Hong Kong SAR, America, Taiwan Province, India and Russia are the top five in the list.
104 out of the World 250 Retail Enterprises released in 2011 attended the Fair, a 23.8% increase over the previous session. Buyers from well-known chain stores like Wal-mart, Carrifour, Tesco, Costco, and Target continued to send procurement staff. 1825 international chain enterprises came in this session, a 0.5% reduction compared to the 109th session, while their procurement staff increased by 3.8% to 4423.
Among the total buyers, the number of regular buyers reached 134,635, an increase of 2.9% over the previous session; 27,565 of them came from companies attending the Fair for over 15 times, increased by 11.1% over the 109th. The number of new buyer reached 70,596, a reduction of 2.5% compared to the previous session. The number accounted for 34% of the total buyers, decreased by 1% over last session.
38,600 domestic representatives of the overseas purchasers attended the Fair, increased by 4.5% over the previous session.
